Kutluğ Ataman
Butterfly flaps its wings

Video installation

27. August – 12. September 2004

Opening 27.8., 21.00
Hebbel am Ufer, Open-Air
Free admission

A fluttering butterfly appears one night against the façade of a building. The flapping of the insect’s wings makes various images appear all of which inspire new thoughts and meanings. The creature has flown right into the heart of Europe. As an image, it is also a text that needs to be read. Renowned film maker and video artist Kutluğ Ataman’s video installation also makes reference to the terrorist attacks of September 11 and those in Istanbul in 2003. Having exhibited in the Venice Biennial and Tate Triennial, Kutluğ Ataman has just been nominated for the prestigious Turner Prize.
