Rumi, the most important poet and mystic of the Orient in the 13th century, provides the focus for the acclaimed period music ensemble Bezmârâ’s re-interpretation of ancient oriental music and poetry which ranges from whirling dervishes to the recitation of Rumi verses by German actors Eva Mattes and Thomas Schücke. To this day, the great poet’s work with its emphasis on humanism and tolerance has influenced peoples and cultures all over the world. For a deeper insight into his work, do not miss the documentary »Tolerance Dedicated to Mawlana Jalal-al-din Rumi« directed by Fehmi Gerçeker and narrated by Vanessa Redgrave which was shown worldwide as part of UNESCO’s »Year of Tolerance« programme.
