The Trakya All Stars was founded by Burhan Öçal after a painstaking three-year search through cafés frequented by musicians in Thrace. In homage to gypsy musicians to which Öçal feels he owes so much »I learnt music from them«, Trakya All Stars comprises gypsy musicians playing cümbüş, clarinet, violin, rhythm instruments, drums, zurna, trumpet and accordion. The common background of these musicians is that all of their grandfathers emigrated from Thessaloniki to Thrace during the exchange of communities at the beginning of the 20th century.
